FAQ: LucidLink Classic and the new LucidLink

  • Updated

On November 7, 2024, we launched the new LucidLink (v3.0.6151 and later), a separate product from LucidLink Classic (v2.8 and earlier). As these two versions are entirely separate, accounts and filespaces created in LucidLink Classic cannot be used with the new LucidLink application, and vice versa. This guide is designed to help you understand what this means for you and provide practical details, including where to log in and download the correct version.

How can I tell if my account and filespace are on LucidLink Classic or the new LucidLink?

If your account and/or filespace were created prior to November 7, 2024, then they're likely on LucidLink Classic.

Where do I log in?

Where do I download the correct application?

Can I connect to my LucidLink Classic filespace with the new LucidLink app?

If you used LucidLink in production prior to November 7th 2024, then your filespace is likely a LucidLink Classic filespace. Currently, LucidLink Classic filespaces are not accessible with the new LucidLink application, please install and use the LucidLink Classic 2.8 version here: Download LucidLink Classic

Can I use the new LucidLink application alongside LucidLink Classic?

Yes. Both applications can be installed and run side-by-side. Currently, the filespaces are tied to the LucidLink application major version, so you cannot connect to LucidLink Classic filespaces with the new LucidLink app (v3.0.6151 and later).

How long will I be able to continue using LucidLink Classic?

We will continue to support LucidLink Classic alongside the new LucidLink. For users who wish to migrate, we are developing a filespace upgrade tool to help transition from LucidLink Classic to the new LucidLink. This tool is expected to be available in 2025.

How can I try out the new LucidLink?

You can register here. You can create your new account using the same email address you used in LucidLink Classic. Keep in mind that this is a separate account, so you'll need to set a new password.

Does the new LucidLink app use Kernel Extensions (KEXT)?

The new LucidLink application (v3.0.6151 and later) is KEXT-less, it also does not use System Extensions and does not require a system restart before using. Simply install it and you're ready to go.
