This article highlights the key features of the LucidLink iOS app, available from the App Store.
Workspaces and filespaces
All workspaces and filespaces accessible to a user are displayed in the initial workspace and filespace section of the app. However, please note the following exceptions:
- Workspaces with pending invitations will not appear until the invite is accepted. You can accept your invite also on your mobile device.
- Some workspaces may be restricted from mobile access by the workspace owner or administrator, meaning they will be visible in the desktop app but not in the mobile app.
- Some workspaces are behind SSO and might not be accessible with accounts outside of the SSO domain.
- LucidLink Classic filespaces are not supported in the iOS app, and logging in with a LucidLink Classic account is not possible.
Connecting to a filespace
Clicking on a filespace immediately establishes a connection, allowing users to browse the folders and files it contains.
When logging in for the first time, no filespaces are connected until one is selected.
Once a filespace is connected, it remains active until:
- The application is stopped.
- A different filespace is selected.
Since the LucidLink iOS app supports active connections to only one filespace at a time, clicking on a new filespace will automatically disconnect the previously connected one. The connected filespace's icon is highlighted in green.
Caching
The LucidLink iOS app has a pre-determined cache size of 5GB and will allow for caching of data up to this limit. The cache is used to store data blocks that have recently been viewed/streamed in order to give quick access to them in case they are needed again. All cache is cleared when the app is uninstalled.
Preview media files inside the app
The LucidLink iOS app provides the option to view iOS-native media formats within the app itself as well as watch videos in a floating window. In-app viewing supports streaming data through LucidLink's file system.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of file types supported: mov, mp4, m4a, m4v, caf, wav, aiff, aifc, amr, mp3, au, ac3, eac3, 3gpp, 3gpp2, flac, w64, m4b, aac, adts, m4r.
It's important to note that the streaming quality will be directly influenced by the strenght of the available internet connection and might vary. When the internet connection is fully lost, a file might need to be reopened in the in-app player in order to be able to play new parts of it.
Sharing and opening files in 3rd party apps
The iOS app offers sharing of files with 3rd party apps - to open, edit, distribute, etc. The "Share" button also allows the option to save/download the selected file to the phone.
Any file in the LucidLink iOS app can be opened with a 3rd party client app but it's important to remember that this requires a full file download as the LucidLink app shares complete files with 3rd party applications. You will will be informed by the app when you attempt to download a large file so that you can keep track of your data usage:
