macOS Finder Tags
macOS Finder Tags are not supported on LucidLink filespaces. While tag metadata is stored correctly, macOS relies on a local indexing system to surface tagged files in Finder search and sidebar filters. This indexing is not compatible with LucidLink’s virtual file system.
You may be able to apply color or name-based Finder Tags to files and folders stored in a LucidLink filespace. However, these tags will not:
-
Appear in Finder’s tag sidebar
-
Show up in tag-based Smart Folders
-
Be searchable using Finder or
mdfind
That’s because macOS requires a local file index to track and retrieve tagged files. LucidLink does not support this kind of indexing on Filespaces.
Why Indexing Isn’t Supported:
macOS indexing needs to maintain a real-time index of all metadata on a filesystem. In a cloud-native environment like LucidLink — especially one designed to be accessed by many users concurrently — allowing each macOS client to index the entire Filespace could create a massive and unsustainable performance load on the system. For this reason, indexing is disabled by design.
