New LucidLink Single Sign-On (SSO) SAML 2.0 Implementation

  • Updated

Target audience: Workspace administrators

Overview

This document marks the beginning of a dedicated series of Knowledge Base articles, detailing the integration and deployment of our newly introduced Single Sign-On (SSO) solution, which is based on the SAML 2.0 protocol. For LucidLink customers with an Enterprise contract, this implementation is available as of LucidLink version 3.1, released in April 2025.

Benefits of a SAML-based SSO implementation:

This new SAML-based SSO implementation expands LucidLink’s compatibility to a much wider range of SSO identity providers beyond just Okta and Entra ID (formerly AzureAD). This gives enterprise and security-minded organizations far more flexibility and greater choice when selecting an Identity Provider (IDP) platform.

Our new SSO implementation encompasses the LucidLink 3.1 desktop client, our new web application, and also extends to both our Android and iOS mobile apps, thus providing SSO authentication at every major touchpoint of a creative workflow. IT managers and administrators can now deploy LucidLink at scale with confidence, knowing that the authentication platform of their choosing can be applied anywhere creative work is done.

What is SAML 2.0?

SAML 2.0 (Security Assertion Markup Language 2.0) is an open-standard protocol that allows secure authentication and authorization between two parties—typically:

  • an Identity Provider (IdP), like Okta, Azure AD, Google or OneLogin

  • and a Service Provider (SP), such as LucidLink

SAML 20 is a federated identity protocol, meaning it lets users access multiple systems using a single set of credentials, typically managed centrally by the organization.

SAML 2.0 enables secure, scalable, and user-friendly SSO by letting organizations delegate authentication to a trusted provider. It’s a widely adopted standard because it simplifies user access while enhancing control, visibility, and security across systems.
