LucidLink iOS app: Preview, share, download and upload data

In-App File Streaming and Preview Capabilities

The LucidLink iOS Application offers robust functionality for viewing and interacting with files stored in your LucidLink Filespace, prioritizing efficiency and speed.

Native Streaming for Media Files

The application is engineered to support direct, in-app streaming for various video and audio formats. This is achieved through the use of Apple's native framework (), which provides optimized, high-performance media playback. The following formats are supported:

VideoMP4 (.mp4, .m4v, .mov)
 QuickTime Movie (.mov)
 3GPP (.3gp, .3g2)
AudioMP3 (.mp3)
 M4A (.m4a)
 WAV (.wav)
 AIFF (.aiff)

Previewing Other File Types

In addition to media streaming, the application allows for the direct preview of many other common file types, including:

  • Images: (, , , etc.)
  • Documents: (, , , , etc.)
  • Presentations and Spreadsheets

However, to ensure reliable rendering and a smooth user experience for non-streaming file types, the application requires the entire file content to be fully downloaded to the local device before the visualization can begin within the iOS previewer. This is done automatically before previewing such file type.

File Download & Share

Clicking the context menu next to each file provides an option to download the entire file to the device's Files app.

Clicking on "Download" provides you with an option to share the file to a 3rd party application.

Uploading Files from Your Mobile Device

The LucidLink iOS application makes it simple to upload files, videos, and photos directly from your mobile device to your Filespace.

How to Start an Upload

  1. From the main screen of the application, navigate to the desired folder where you want the new files to reside.
  2. Tap the plus () button located in the top-right corner.
  3. You will be presented with two source options:
    • Photos & Videos: Access files stored in your device's Camera Roll.
    • Files: Access files stored in your device's native file system (e.g., iCloud Drive, Dropbox, local storage).
  4. Select the desired files from your chosen location. The upload process will begin automatically upon selection.

Monitoring and Managing Uploads

You can efficiently track and manage all active uploads within the Upload Sheet, which appears once an upload starts. The Upload Sheet can be opened, minimized, and accessed at any point while you continue browsing other sections of the application. Within this sheet, you can monitor the progress  and the current status of each file. To stop an upload, you have the option to cancel any individual file transfer while it is in progress.

Understanding Upload Statuses

An upload passes through three distinct stages before completion, as shown in the Upload Sheet:

StatusDescription
PreparingThe initial stage where the file is being copied locally to the LucidLink application's internal cache. This is where the file is encrypted, compressed and split into streamable chunks.
Uploading to CloudOnce the file is fully transferred to the cache, the application begins securely uploading it to the cloud object storage within your LucidLink Filespace.
CompletedThis final status confirms that the file has been successfully transferred and is now fully available within your Filespace.

Background Upload Functionality

The LucidLink iOS and iPadOS Application is designed to maximize transfer efficiency, even when you switch to other apps.

Background Upload Support by OS Version

We've enabled background uploads for users on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 to ensure transfers continue even when you switch apps or lock your screen. If you are using an older version of the operating system, you will need to keep the LucidLink application in the foreground for the upload process to complete.

Important Considerations for all iOS/iPadOS Versions

Even with background support, please be aware of the following factors dictated by the operating system that can affect upload speed and continuity:

  • System Resource Management: Apple's operating system strictly manages background processes to conserve battery life and maintain device performance. The system may temporarily pause or throttle background uploads if the device is low on battery, under high memory pressure, or if network connectivity is intermittent.
  • Optimal Performance: To guarantee the fastest and most reliable uploads for large files or batches of data, it is always recommended to:
    1. Keep the application in the foreground until the transfer is complete.
    2. Ensure your device is connected to a stable network (ideally ).
    3. Keep your device unlocked and charging, if possible.
  • Resume functionality: If an upload is interrupted (e.g., due to a temporary loss of signal or a system pause), the application is engineered to automatically resume the transfer once the app is reopened or the system grants background processing time, ensuring data integrity is maintained.
