The new LucidLink continues to add features and capabilities that your team may benefit from, and some of these require an updated filespace version. With Layout Upgrade, you can upgrade an existing filespace in the new LucidLink to the latest version without copying or moving your data.
Layout Upgrade is currently available by request only. Your account manager will let you know if a Layout Upgrade is needed for your filespace to take advantage of any new features your account is entitled to.
Who is this article for?
This article is for workspace and filespace admins in the new LucidLink who need to upgrade an existing filespace to the latest version. Your data stays in place, so nothing is copied or moved, and your existing users, groups, and permissions are preserved. The following guide will walk you through the process.
Layout Upgrade is not the same as upgrading from LucidLink Classic. It does not migrate billing or users, and there is no Classic web portal login or user mapping. If you are moving from LucidLink Classic to the new LucidLink, see the Upgrade Tool series instead.
Getting started
The upgrade should be conducted during scheduled downtime. Choose a service window for your team and communicate the timing in advance.
- The filespace will be inaccessible for the duration of the upgrade. Users won't be able to access files or make changes while it runs.
- Users still working in the filespace when the upgrade begins could lose unsaved work.
- Once the upgrade completes, users will need to reconnect to resume working.
- Once you've upgraded, there's no going back to an older version. Make sure you're ready ahead of time.
To begin, log in to your account in the new LucidLink using the desktop application on macOS, Windows, or Linux, and open the filespace you want to upgrade.
When a filespace is eligible, an Upgrade option appears on the filespace card, in the filespace menu, and in the filespace's settings; where an upgrade section shows your current version and the version you'll upgrade to. Select it to start.
Disclosures
Next you'll see a summary of what to know before you upgrade. Please read it carefully, as the upgrade is irreversible once completed.
While the upgrade does preserve your data, users, groups, and permissions, it does not preserve your snapshots or local settings: snapshots won't be saved and settings will be reset. Make a note of any settings or snapshots you rely on so you can re-create them afterward.
Once you've read everything, check the box to acknowledge you understand, then select Start upgrade.
Running the upgrade
The upgrade is now running, and you'll see progress for each step of the process. It's important to stay connected to the internet throughout. If you change your mind or need to cancel for any reason, select Stop upgrade.
Stopping the upgrade won't result in data loss, and you can start a new upgrade at any time.
Depending on the size of your filespace, this may take some time. For best performance, run the upgrade on a local machine (rather than a cloud virtual machine) with a fast SSD. The process runs entirely on the machine performing the upgrade and is write-intensive on the local disk.
Ideally the upgrade is an attended process, but you can step away while it completes. Just don't exit the app, and disable any power saving features that might put the system to sleep for the duration.
Upgrade complete
When the upgrade finishes, you'll see a summary confirming that your filespace was upgraded successfully. Collaborators can reconnect right away to make changes and upload new files. Select Done to return to your workspaces.
After you're done
There is no grace period. Once the upgrade completes successfully, the previous version of the filespace is decommissioned immediately.
- Snapshots are not carried over and settings are reset to defaults. Re-create any snapshots and reapply any settings you need.
- There is no way to return to the earlier version.
Your data, users, groups, and permissions carry over automatically, so most teams can pick up right where they left off. Because the new LucidLink also lets you access your content on the web and via iOS and Android (if enabled), some users may need to install those apps.
