When using LucidLink with Milestone for video recordings, Milestone will create media database on your LucidLink Filespace. If you are inside the Milestone ecosystem you can access live and recorded footage via the Smart Client, which authenticates with a Management Server, or via features like Milestone XProtect Corporate Interconnect.
However, what happens if you wish to access archive data from the media database directly? Milestone offers a way to run the Smart Client in Offline Mode.
Warning: Offline access is only possible for archive media databases. Using the Smart Client in Offline Mode on an active recording media database will result in requests to repair the media database, which can affect the integrity of the video stream that is actively recording.
- Connect to a LucidLink Filespace with an existing media database. If you do not already have a Filespace with Milestone data be sure to follow the steps for setting up LucidLink with Milestone. Remember that Smart Client Offline Mode is only supported with archive media databases or databases that are no longer being accessed by the source recording server.
- Make sure you have installed the Milestone Smart Client on the machine where you wish to access the media database. To run the Milestone Smart Client in Offline Mode without requiring authentication, you can run
C:\Program Files\Milestone\XProtect Smart Client\Player.exedirectly.
Select 'Open Database', and select the Milestone Archive Media Database.
Note that if you wish to package the Smart Client for offline use to run without other dependencies you can run
C:\Program Files\Milestone\XProtect Smart Client\Client.exe -CreatePlayer -OutputPath=<path>. Once this is complete you can run
- Select the camera footage you wish to import and click 'Next'.
Stop if the Milestone Smart Client asks to repair the database. Make sure you are using an offline, archive media database.
- Once opened you should be able to view the recorded camera footage.
