FAQ

This article intends to provide an overview of the LucidLink Upgrade Tool, and answer some frequently asked questions.

Who can use the LucidLink Upgrade Tool?

The Upgrade Tool is available starting Oct 7, 2025, for direct customers under contract. If you’re on a self-serve or reseller-managed plan, we’ll let you know when you’re eligible. Support for all plans is on the way, rolling out in stages helps ensure every upgrade is smooth and fully supported.

What is the Upgrade Tool and why should I use it?

The Upgrade Tool moves your filespace from Classic to the new LucidLink in minutes with no manual migration or re-ingesting files. Your files, users, groups, permissions and settings all carry over automatically. Some items — like snapshots, pinned files, SSO, “copy links” and shares — won’t migrate and may need reconfiguring. You’ll also unlock new features and apps available only in the new LucidLink.

Will Classic still work after I upgrade?

Yes, but only for a limited time. Your Classic filespace will remain available in read-only mode for 30 days after you upgrade, giving you time to double-check and transition smoothly. After 30 days, the Classic filespace will be automatically cleaned up.

Will my workflows continue to work?

The new LucidLink is an all-new product that may differ in some ways to the LucidLink Classic. Please refer to our feature matrix for a comprehensive view of what features are available in the new LucidLink. New features will be exclusive to the new LucidLink.

If you are using Single Sign-On (SSO), you will need to reconfigure the integration post upgrade. Please refer to our post-upgrade configuration article.

For the older Classic filespaces utilizing "shares", the path structure will be converted to the full-path "permissions" equivalent (already used in LucidLink Classic v2.2 and up). If you are using "shares", you might need to re-link to the new paths.

Lastly, any "copy links" generated on the Classic filespace will not work on the new filespace and will need to be recreated if needed.

What if I don't upgrade yet?

LucidLink Classic will continue to be supported and receive updates. However, no new features will be added — all new innovations will only be released on the new LucidLink. There’s no retirement date set for Classic, and you’ll receive plenty of advance notice before any changes.

In short: you can keep using Classic with confidence today, and when you’re ready, the Upgrade Tool gives you a smooth, low-risk path forward.

Is downtime required?

Yes, but only briefly. Most upgrades take under 30 minutes during a scheduled maintenance window. Larger filespaces may take longer. Users must disconnect from LucidLink Classic while the process runs, or risk losing unsaved changes.

Does it cost anything?

No. The Upgrade Tool is free to use and your subscription price won’t change during your current contract term.

Will my reported storage usage look different after upgrading?

Yes — storage will now be calculated using the industry-standard decimal system (1 TB = 1000 GB), instead of the binary system (1 TB = 1024 GB). This means your reported usage may appear higher, but the actual amount of data you’re storing hasn’t changed.

Will this affect my pricing?

No. Your plan will be adjusted so your total price stays exactly the same.

Will my invoice change?

Slightly. You may notice a higher storage amount (in TB) and a lower price per TB, but your total invoice amount remains unchanged.
