What should I do if my Workspace reaches its storage limit?

  • Updated

If your workspace reaches its plan's limit, you must reduce its Current Storage or upgrade to a plan that supports your storage requirements before you can add more data.

Your workspace’s storage allowance depends on your LucidLink plan. See LucidLink plans and pricing for current details.

Check your Current Storage

To check how much storage you're currently using:

  1. Open the three-dot menu beside your workspace name.
  2. Select Billing and invoices.
  3. If you are using the LucidLink desktop application, the Billing and invoices page will open in your web browser.
  4. Find the Storage panel and check the value labelled Current.

Current Storage includes data in the live filespace as well as data retained by snapshots.

Why hasn’t my storage decreased after deleting files?

Deleting files from the live filespace may not immediately reduce Current storage.

If deleted data is referenced by one or more snapshots, LucidLink must retain it so that it can still be recovered from those snapshots. The data will continue to count toward Current Storage until every snapshot referencing it has expired or been deleted.

For example, suppose you delete 500 GB from your filespace. If an earlier snapshot contains that data, the 500 GB will remain part of Current Storage even though the files are no longer visible in the live filespace.

Option 1: Reduce your Current Storage

If you want to remain on your current plan:

  1. Delete files you no longer need from the live filespace.
  2. Review any snapshots that may still reference the deleted data.
  3. Delete unnecessary snapshots or allow scheduled snapshots to expire.
  4. Allow time for garbage collection to remove the unreferenced data.
  5. Monitor Current Storage until it falls below your plan’s limit.

Before deleting a snapshot, be aware that:

  • Snapshot deletion is permanent.
  • Files or previous file versions retained only by that snapshot will no longer be recoverable.
  • Manually created snapshots do not expire automatically.
  • Deleting one snapshot may not release the data if another snapshot still references it.
  • You cannot delete individual files from a snapshot.

For complete instructions and important considerations, see Deleting Snapshots.

Allow time for garbage collection

Once deleted data is no longer referenced by the live filespace or any snapshot, it becomes eligible for garbage collection.

Garbage collection runs automatically, but storage may not decrease immediately. The time required depends on the amount of data being removed and the level of activity within the filespace.

Monitor Current Storage in the LucidLink application or web app to follow its progress.

Option 2: Upgrade your workspace plan

If you need to retain the files or snapshots, you may need to upgrade your workspace to a plan that supports a larger amount of storage.

See LucidLink plans and pricing for the current allowances and upgrade options.

Why is Used storage still high?

Current Storage and Used Storage measure different things:

  • Current Storage shows how much storage your workspace occupies now.
  • Used Storage represents the average storage consumed during the current billing period and is used for billing calculations.

Used storage may remain high after Current Storage decreases because it includes storage consumed earlier in the billing period.

For more information, see Billing basics.

Still need help?

If Current Storage does not begin decreasing after you have removed the relevant snapshots and allowed time for garbage collection, submit a Support ticket.
